Despina Kalessopoulou

Despina Kalessopoulou holds a BA in Archaeology and History of Art (University of Athens), and an MA in Museum Studies (University of Leicester). She has collaborated with various museums and cultural institutions, and has served for many years as Head of the education department in the Skironio Museum Polychronopoulos (Contemporary Art), and the Hellenic Children’s Museum. From 2006 onwards she works at the National Archaeological Museum, Athens, where she is involved in museum communication, education and exhibition design. Her major areas of interest and published work are on the educational and social role of the museum. Since 1997, she has been teaching museum education related issues in various institutions. Her Doctorate research is on the theme: Museum spaces for children: an ecological approach to their organisation and use.
